Neurotransmitters are the information molecules of the brain. They are chemical messages that go from one nerve cell to other nerve cells, muscle cells or glands. These neurotransmitters enable you to move your limbs, experience physical sensations, and feel your feelings. They regulate how your heart beats and how your brain thinks. Two of the most well-studied neurotransmitters are cannabinoids: Anandamide (AEA) and 2-AG. They interact with the other neurotransmitters as well as with our hormonal and immune systems to maintain homeostasis, or balance. This multipart series by Project CBD contributing writer Lex Pelger takes a deep dive into the amazing inner world of neurotransmitters.
